In 1117 the “Gut am Puhel” is mentioned for the first time. Back then the monastery of Saint Peter of Salzburg used the estate as its official residence. Today you will find the keys of Saint Peter and the bishop’s mitre in the Pichlmayrgut’s coat of arms. From 1711 until 1919 the Pichlmayrgut country estate already belonged to the familiy Steiner, a branch of the family Steiner from today. Over the centuries the names have slowly changed. The records initially mention “Stainer” as the surname. The estate itself is mentioned over and over again with different spellings, such as “Pichelmairgut”, “Pichlmayergut”, “Pichlmaiergut” or “Pichlmeiergut”.

In 1949 the grandfather of today’s host Christian Steiner used his chance to buy back the country estate Pichlmayrgut. After he was leaving behind a couple of difficult initial years, the blossoming tourism within the region was helping that the story of success of the family Steiner grow up. The following decades brought hard-earned rewards for their continuous work.
